Enjoy The Snowman as never before when this magical Christmas classic comes to the Museum’s iconic Great Court. This heart-warming story will be accompanied by a live chamber orchestra and soloists from the Concordia Foundation and specially lit to surround you in a wintry snowstorm, for a truly unforgettable evening. With much-loved classics such as Walking in the Air, you and the whole family can immerse yourselves in this animation masterpiece.
Your evening will begin in the Enlightenment Gallery (Room 1), where you will enjoy live music performances and festive treats such as mulled cider and mince pies before entering the Great Court for the main performance. The orchestra will get you into the Christmas spirit with a selection of classics from the famous Nutcracker before the film and live soundtrack begin.
One winter morning a little boy named James wakes up to find that everything outside has turned snow-white.
Overjoyed, James rushes downstairs and into the garden, where he begins to build a snowman. When he opens the back door he can’t believe his eyes… the snowman has come to life! James finds himself face to face with a smiling snowman, who, with a polite doff of his hat, introduces himself, marking the beginning of a magical friendship and marvellous adventure…
Originally published in 1978, The Snowman was created and illustrated by Raymond Briggs. It has become one of the world’s most popular children’s books, selling in excess of 8.5 million copies worldwide and being translated into over 15 languages.
This well-loved book was adapted for screen by producer John Coates, leading to the Oscar-nominated animation with iconic score. The Snowman was first aired in 1982 and has been broadcast on a global scale including Asia, Europe and North America.

• Doors open for registration at 19.00 and a paying bar will be available in the Enlightenment gallery (Room 1) before the event for half an hour, serving drinks and refreshments, as well as your complimentary drink.
• The Great Court will open for seating at 19.25.
• The performance runs for 45 minutes.
• Seating is provided for the duration of the performance, It is unreserved and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
