NOTES
Grieg - Sechs Lieder
The period between autumn of 1887 and the spring of 1890 found Grieg giving piano recitals throughout Europe and composing very little. The Six Songs, Op. 48 were, along with the Op. 49 Songs, the only works published during this period. The Op. 48 Songs were set to German texts, the first time since the Op. 4 set of songs that Grieg had used the German language.
Finzi - Let Us Garland's Bring
Let Us Garlands Bring is a song cycle composed by Gerald Finzi between 1929 - 1942. It consists of five settings of songs from plays by William Shakespeare and was premiered on 12 October 1942, at the National Gallery in London. That day was the 70th birthday of Ralph Vaughan Williams, and the cycle is dedicated to him.
Poulenc - Chanson Gaillardes
Chansons Gaillardes is a song cycle of eight pieces composed by Francis Poulenc between 1925–1926.
This cycle was premiered on 2 May 1926 by Pierre Bernac, as a 26-year-old baritone, and Francis Poulenc, 27 years old, as the pianist. It is the memory of this first collaboration that will bring together Poulenc and Bernac several years later for several international tours.
